If you're buying custom car seats or replacement car seats it may take time to order them.

A custom car seat will have a precise fit over your seats, with accommodation for the headrest, seat controls and where the seatbelts are mounted. Made-to-measure seat covers will fit like they were factory-installed.

Most of us will experience a permanent stain on our car upholstery, or a rip that exposes the foam that could get worse and destroy the entire seat. But, there are options available to choose replacement upholstery to make sure it matches what you have now as closely as possible.

Match the Color

Of course one of the main considerations is to match the color. This is important if you're doing a repair, rather than a replacement, and you don't want the repair to be noticeable. Take a small piece of your auto upholstery with you so you can match the colors as closely as possible. If you're looking online, make sure you know the year, model and make of your vehicle to get a match. Texture is also an important consideration. You don't want your replacement upholstery to have a different texture than your existing upholstery.

Know the Price

Another consideration, of course, is price. Make sure you compare with a few suppliers, so you know what the going rate is. The price will depend largely on the material you choose with plain cloth representing the low end of the spectrum and leather or sheepskin being a more pricey choice.

Sometimes a repair is not what you want. You want a whole new look and new upholstery throughout your vehicle. If that's the case, shop around because you're looking at a major expense as well as some time away from your car while the work is being done. Always discuss the timeframe with the upholsterer and then expect the work to go over a day to two. Better to be prepared to do without than being caught unawares.

Auto seat covers is a thriving business, so check out your options before you open your wallet. Car seat covers are the alternative to a full reupholstering job and will look good and stand up over time.
